Accessibility design guidance for an early-stage mobile app
As part of our pro bono work, we reviewed Bee-Able’s early designs to ensure accessibility was built into the app from the very start.
Bee-Able is a start-up on a mission to help people navigate urban environments with confidence. Their mobile app identifies and rates accessible routes, streets, and establishments, giving users the information they need to make informed decisions while encouraging businesses to improve inclusivity.
At the time of our engagement, Bee-Able was in the early discovery and design phase of a six-week sprint, preparing to present their concept to potential investors.
What we did
As part of our pro bono programme, we provided an accessibility design review of Bee-Able’s early screen designs. The aim was to embed accessibility from the start, ensuring inclusive principles are part of the app’s foundation rather than added later.
We also gave tailored guidance and practical recommendations, highlighting accessibility strengths and potential improvements based on the proposed designs.
How this helped Bee-Able
By reviewing the designs early in the product lifecycle, Bee-Able were able to:
- Incorporate accessibility into their development roadmap
- Strengthen the app for users with diverse needs
- Demonstrate to investors that accessibility was central to the product
The pro bono support helped ensure that accessibility is part of Bee-Able’s DNA from day one, increasing the likelihood that the finished app will be genuinely inclusive and usable by as many people as possible.
